About Charles

Charles C. Thao is a Christian counselor, entrepreneur, and author (LOL and SORROW by LOL Publications in 2024) whose life journey reflects perseverance through war, displacement, business success, personal loss, and spiritual renewal. Born in Laos during the height of the Vietnam War era in the 1960s—when conflict spilled across neighboring borders—he spent his earliest years surrounded by violence, instability, and fear. His mother passed away when he was just one year old due in part to malnourishment and illness, and his father left to join the war effort, entrusting his care to grandparents, aunts, and uncles. Forced to mature quickly, Charles forfeited much of his childhood while learning resilience at a very young age.

As a child, he later became a refugee in Thailand, where he endured severe shortages of food, limited medical care, and the threat of widespread disease within overcrowded, barbed-wire camps. On February 28, 1978, he arrived in the United States through the Refugee Resettlement Program, marking the beginning of a new chapter defined by determination and hope. He devoted himself to learning English, pursued higher education, and eventually studied naturopathic medicine. With an entrepreneurial spirit, he founded a company focused on the manufacturing of nutraceutical and dietary supplements. The venture grew into a multimillion-dollar enterprise, demonstrating his business acumen and drive. However, legal challenges later arose related to regulatory compliance in the dietary-supplement industry, resulting in a federal prison sentence of six and a half years—an experience that profoundly reshaped his life perspective.

Through war-torn beginnings, refugee hardship, cultural adjustment in America, professional achievement, and personal setbacks, Charles faced deep trauma and adversity. Anchored by his Christian faith, he redirected his life toward ministry and service.

By the grace of God, through seasons of turbulence, trials, rejection, and deep personal trauma, Charles came to understand the true meaning of humility—and what ministry really is. Ministry was not a title. It was not a platform. It was not recognition. Ministry was service. It was washing the feet of others. It was standing in the gap for those who could not stand for themselves.

Years of hardship refined him. Pain softened his heart. Failure stripped away pride. Suffering taught him compassion. What once felt like setbacks became sacred training grounds. Through brokenness, God shaped his character. Through loss, God clarified his calling.

In 2026, with renewed vision and unwavering faith, Charles, alongside his partner Soua Thao, stepped forward in obedience and founded Amanacare Ministries. It was not built on ambition, but on surrender. Not driven by profit, but by purpose.

From that humble beginning, Amana Fest was born—a FREE oil change and vehicle inspection service created to serve the elderly, single parents, disabled individuals, and low-income families in the community. What seemed simple on the surface—changing oil, checking engines, inspecting vehicles—was in reality something far greater. It was restoring dignity. It was relieving burdens. It was demonstrating the love of Christ in practical, tangible ways.

Every hood lifted became an opportunity to lift a burden. Every vehicle serviced became a reminder that someone cares. Amana Fest was more than an event; it was ministry in motion.

Through Amanacare Ministries, Charles’ journey of pain was transformed into purpose, and his trials became tools to bless others. By the grace of God, what once broke him became the very foundation upon which he now builds hope for others.
